Report
I&JPN enables stakeholders to collaboratively address the transnational policy challenges of the digital 21st century, to ensure policy coherence and legal interoperability among initiatives, processes and actors bridging digital economy, human rights and cybersecurity.
In the period January-October 2020, the over 120 Members of the three Policy Programs of the Policy Network (Data & Jurisdiction, Content & Jurisdiction and Domains & Jurisdiction) released 12 Outcome Documents.
On November 24, 2020 the Internet & Jurisdiction and ECLAC Status Report 2020 will be released at the 7th Ministerial Conference on the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Report responds to a call of regional consolidation of available information and is part of the 5 year MoU signed between the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network and UN ECLAC.
I&JPN is investigating knowledge mutualization in other regions (in particular Africa (2021).
The following are some of the comments made by members of the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network during the session:
- The I&JPN helps actors consider opportunities for a better world with more fluidity in international cooperation to find innovative solutions.
- Participating in the Data & Jurisdiction Contact Group is a useful exercise to evaluate the mechanisms to envisage a common model across different frameworks.
- I&JPN has established an environment of trust and a safe space to share ideas.
- The Domains & Jurisdiction Contact Group brings together people, builds bridges and facilitates dialogue.
- Proportionate handling of jurisdictional issues is needed to preserve users' trust in the internet.
- Having a space where discussions can be had on core fundamental questions, for example on notice, in a very detailed way one step removed from legislative procedures is very valuable to hear different perspectives.
